Gang Leader for a Day

Gang Leader for a Day was about Sudhir Venkatesh (the Author), and his ethnography study of the gangs in Chicago. It was a interesting book, the fact that he didn't get killed through all the adventures he had while hanging out with the Black Kings Gang was truly remarkable. His ordeal with just meeting the gang and asking if he could study them in itself was a huge surprise that he wasn't mugged or even killed. I personally think its because he wasn't white, which  if he was, would pose a threat to people in the projects and they would have rejected if proposal to observe him.

Sudhir Venkatesh did show the cultural similarities that every person in the world has. We all like to share what we eat, most people are caring and nice, there really isn't much difference between people other then the cultural restraints that society plagues people with.

Overall i liked the book, it was simple and easy to read/understand. And if i had to recommend a book Gang Leader for a Day would have to be one of those books. It may actually open the eyes of some people who are egocentric and selfish.
